Interactive AI Parrot - IoT, Edge AI, Hardware Design

In the heart of Silesian city, Gliwice, surrounded by many other restaurants, our client faced a unique challenge: how to make their Ecuadorian restaurant (charmingly named Locoloro), stand out and surprise guests in a way they’d never seen before? The answer came from blending high-tech with tropical flair: an interactive parrot that chats with customers! A bold idea, brilliantly simple.

Since we love a good challenge, we took on this ambitious prototype, combining 3D printing, speech recognition, generative AI, and, of course, IoT. In just six weeks, we delivered the first intelligent parrot. Our goal was to bring the client’s vision to life, and thanks to our extensive experience in IoT and AI, the development process was both smooth and – frankly speaking – really fun. The scope included everything from the hardware design to software integration and connecting with external services.

The parrot was designed to chat naturally with users. It’s powered by a compact Raspberry Pi and connected to ElevenLabs’ API to generate real-time responses. We also used Edge AI to recognize a wake-up word, which activates the bird when spoken. After the conversation ends, the parrot automatically returns to standby mode.

Results & Future Potential

We built a fully functional prototype that lays the groundwork for future iterations. The final version will be weather-resistant and tough enough to withstand potential vandalism. If rolled out at scale, these talking parrots could appear in restaurants across the country – an engaging marketing tool and a fun draw for guests.
